For the first time, Samsung’s Electro Mechanics division will start supplying Chinese OEMs like LeEco and Xiaomi with dual camera modules. The company has been already been supplying few of its ISOCELL camera modules to some Chinese OEMs, but this will be the first time that the Korean giant will be supplying its dual camera modules to them.

The source of Korea Herald revealed that the company will be supplying dual camera modules to Xiaomi and LeEco, with the former reportedly using the sensor inside its upcoming Mi 5s that is due to be unveiled later this year. Oppo is also rumored to be one of the few companies that will be buying dual camera modules from Samsung.

“The South Korean firm will be begin supplying the modules to Xiaomi and LeECO beginning in July,” an industry source told the local media on the condition of anonymity.

Samsung’s Electro Mechanics division has largely supplied camera modules to Samsung’s smartphone division, with over 60% of its orders in 2015 finding place inside Samsung devices. However, with the smartphone market slowing, the company is now looking to diversify and supply its camera modules to other popular smartphone makers in the market.

With Apple rumored to launch the iPhone 7 Plus with a dual camera system, it is not surprising to see Chinese OEMs scramble to use find and use something similar in their upcoming smartphones.
