Less than a couple of weeks after Xiaomi launched the Mi Max in India, Samsung today launched the Galaxy J Max in the country. The device sports a gigantic 7-inch WXGA screen with voice calling capabilities, and is targeted towards the lower end of the market.
Apart from its large screen, there is nothing particularly remarkable about the J Max. Under the hood of the device is a Spreadtrum quad-core chipset clocked at 1.5GHz, 1.5GB RAM, 16GB storage, microSD card slot, and a 4000mAh battery. The rear of the phablet sports an 8MP shooter, while the front houses a 2MP selfie camera. The device runs on Android 5.1 Lollipop with TouchWiz on top.
To make voice calling easier of the device and not to make you look like a doofus while doing so, Samsung will be bundling a Bluetooth headset with the J Max. The device will also come with a one-year of free subscription to Viu streaming service.
Priced at Rs. 13,400, the Galaxy J Max is slightly cheaper than the Mi Max, but its specs are a clear throwback to the 2012-era. If you are in the market for a 7-inch device with calling facility, you really should just buy the Xiaomi Mi Max over the J Max. The former is better than the J Max in every single regard, including performance, battery life, and display quality/resolution.
