Samsung today launched the Galaxy A6 and Galaxy A6+, its latest mid-range smartphone featuring a premium design and Infinity Display at the front.

The Galaxy A6 features a 5.6-inch HD+ Super AMOLED panel, while the Galaxy A6+ features a 6-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel. They feature a metal design with smooth curves aimed at offering improved durability and grip.

Both handsets are powered by an octa-core chip, though the one on the A6 is clocked at 1.6GHz and the one inside the A6+ is running at 1.8GHz. They will be available in 32/64GBGB storage, 3/4GB RAM, and a microSD card slot. Other specs of the handsets include Wi-Fi n Bluetooth 4.2, microUSB port, fingerprint sensor, and LTE Cat. 6 connectivity.

Apart from their display and dimensions, the A6 and A6+ differ from each other in terms of their camera setup. The A6 features a 16MP f/1.7 shooter at the rear and a 16MP f/1.9 selfie shooter. On the A6+, there is a dual-camera setup: a 16MP f/1.7 shooter and a 5MP depth sensor. At the front, the handset has a 24MP f/1.9 aperture shooter. The dual-camera setup allows the A6+ to capture photos with depth effect. Both phones feature an LED selfie light at the front as well.

Samsung is bringing a number of software features from its flagship phones to the Galaxy A6 and A6+ which are running Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box. They feature face recognition, App pair which allows you to simultaneously open two apps in split-view mode, and Always On Display. Samsung’s virtual assistant, Bixby, is also onboard here with support for Bixby Vision, Home, and Reminder. Lastly, there’s Samsung Pay as well for easy contactless transactions.

The Galaxy S6 and A6+ will be available from early May in selected European, Asian, and Latin American markets before making a wider global rollout across Africa, China, and other markets.

There’s no mention of the pricing of the handsets from Samsung. For the Galaxy A6 and A6+ to do well, it is important that Samsung prices them correctly. It has been continuously losing market share in markets like China and India to Chinese OEMs and to stop that slide, it needs an excellent mid-range smartphone offering a great value for money.
