After weeks of teasing, OnePlus today unveiled their new handset: the OnePlus X. The premium handset features a stellar design, which is its USP.
OnePlus will be offering the X in two versions: Onyx and a limited Ceramic edition. The Onyx variant features a metallic chassis, and a glass front and back, while the Ceramic version with a back that is scratch-resistant. Both variants of the handset feature brushed anodised metal frame that has gone through several polishing process.

The Ceramic version is crafted in a process totaling 25 days. Starting with a zirconia mold just 0.5 mm thick, the ceramic is firebaked up to 2,700oF for more than 28 hours before cooling for two full days. Each individual OnePlus X backplate undergoes three meticulous methods of polishing before it is flawless enough for use. Scratchresistant with a hardness of 8.5H on the Mohs scale and weighing 5.64 oz, the ceramic build is a feat of engineering and design.
As for the specs, the OnePlus X comes with a 5-inch screen with a Full HD resolution. This time around though, the company has used a AMOLED display on the handset. Under the hood, the 6.9mm thin handset packs in a quad-core Snapdragon 801 chipset and an Adreno 320 GPU. Despite being old, the Snapdragon 801 is still plenty fast, though it is not a 64-bit chipset. At the rear of the OnePlus X is a 13MP shooter with an F/2.2 aperture and PDAF (Phase Detection Auto-Focus), while the front houses an 8MP sensor. The rear sensor has been supplied by Samsung and makes use of its ISOCELL technology, while the front shooter has been supplied by OmniVision.
Other specs of the handset include 3GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, a microSD card slot, an alert slider, and a 2,525mAh battery. Like the OnePlus 2, the OnePlus X runs on OxygenOS, which is based on Android 5.1 Lollipop. The phone also has dual-SIM connectivity, but if you use a microSD card, you can only use one of the SIM card slots.
In India, the Onyx version of the OnePlus X has been priced at Rs. 16,999, while the limited Ceramic edition has been priced at Rs. 22,999. In Europe, the handset will be available from November 5 from EUR 269. The handset will be making its way to the United States on November 19 for USD 249. Sadly, OnePlus is still keeping its much dreaded invite system around for the X, which is a bummer. OnePlus will only be producing 10,000 units of the Ceramic variant of the OnePlus X, and will only sell it in Europe and India.
