Back in October of last year, Samsung officially announced the Bixby 2.0 platform, which is a major overhaul of the feature that aims to broaden its availability and give even more features to users.

Unfortunately, Samsung wasn’t able to talk about a release date for Bixby 2.0, as work was still being done on the software. But it sounds like things are going well for Samsung, as the company seems to have a pretty clear expectation for when the digital assistant/interface will arrive on the market.

As reported by ZDNet recently, Samsung is planning on launching Bixby 2.0 to the public alongside the Galaxy Note 9, which is expected to arrive sometime in late-2018. Here is what Samsung Mobile CEO, DJ Koh, had to say on the matter:

“In December last year, we began taking applications for the public beta version. So far over 800 companies have applied and are testing it.

“At this speed, I think we will be able to unveil Bixby 2.0 when we launch the Galaxy Note 9.”

As noted by Koh, Samsung appears to have quite a bit of support with Bixby 2.0, with over 800 companies applying to test out the feature. That would make sense, though, considering the broad idea of Bixby 2.0 is to make the software available on more devices, not just smartphones or tablets. Samsung wants Bixby on televisions, refrigerators, and more.

Bixby 2.0 will be open-source, and the SDK for the software feature is available for third-party companies and developers as well.

Are you looking forward to seeing what Bixby 2.0 has to offer?
