Galaxy Fold has been hogging the limelight ever since it was released earlier this year. The first batch of Galaxy Fold sent to the reviewers suffered from several issues and this forced Samsung to delay the launch. Now CNET has put the Galaxy Fold through a torture test and the device failed yet again.
Samsung Galaxy Fold F is priced at $2000 and features a foldable display. During the launch, Samsung claimed that the Fold F is tested for up to 200,000 folds. However, CNET noticed that during its testing the device gave up on 120,169. Samsung had also put up a video showcasing how Galaxy Fold is tested for folds.

There is one major difference in the way Samsung conducted the folding test as opposed to CNET. The former set up machines that folded Samsung Galaxy F at a slower pace while the latter used a machine that had a much faster pace. In all likelihood, the rapid folding of the device exerted more stress on hinges and this might have caused premature failure.
That being said it is not really that bad. More than 100,000 folds translate to at least a couple of years of usage. In other words, despite the fragile folding mechanism, Galaxy Fold should last for a few years before going kaput. And the numbers are derived after taking into consideration 80 to 200 folds every day. This should not be much of an issue especially since most of us change our phones faster than before. On the other hand, if you are on a lookout for a rugged smartphone then the Galaxy Fold would naturally be your last choice.
