The Korea Times: LG is currently working with Google on the next Nexus smartphone

If you’re really hardcore about Android, then chances are you own a Nexus device. For those unfamiliar with the term, it’s a brand that signifies the hardware in your hand runs pure unadulterated Google software, and that it’ll be supported by Google for the foreseeable future.

The first Nexus device, the Nexus One, was made by HTC. The next two Nexus phones, the Nexus S and the Galaxy Nexus, were made by Samsung. The Nexus that’s currently out on the market, the Nexus 4, is made by LG.

I’m not going to sugar coat this, it’s a highly controversial product that tends to make emotions rise whenever it’s brought up. LG has repeatedly failed to meet demand for the Nexus 4, Google’s servers couldn’t handle the orders for the phone when it initially went on sale, and the prices were and still are all over the place depending on which country you call home. Americans can buy a Nexus 4 for $350, but if you live in Italy then that number goes up to 600 EUR or $785.

With all that context, I’m not sure whether LG making the next Nexus is a good idea or not. According to The Korea Times however, it looks like Google doesn’t have any qualms about buddying up with South Korea’s other large technology company again.

Circling back to this rumored device, what’s it going to bring to the able? I image the “Nexus 5” will be a variant of either the LG Optimus G or G Pro. I’d love it was a G Pro variant because I’m a huge fan of large screens, but it would still be a great phone even it it shipped with a 5 inch 1080p display.

Now let’s hope LG can make more than 10 of them every 24 hours.
