Our apps are far more aware of our location than ever before, and Google wants to make it easier to find one that might help you based on that location.

Google has officially announced “Nearby,” which is a new feature that will roll out within the Play Store beginning today. It works on Android 4.4 and newer devices. As Google points out, the apps available in the Play Store offer plenty of functionality and support for users in certain places. For instance, using an app to get an audio tour of a museum you’re in.

So Google is working with its new Nearby feature to show off apps that will work in certain places to try and boost the experience. It will notify users when an app might be helpful depending on where you are.

Here are a few scenarios:

  • Print photos directly from your phone at CVS Pharmacy.
  • Explore historical landmarks at the University of Notre Dame.
  • Download the audio tour when you’re at The Broad in LA.
  • Skip the customs line at select airports with Mobile Passport.
  • Download the United Airlines app for free in-flight entertainment while you wait at the gate, before you board your flight.

On top of that, Google will notify Android users when there’s a Google Cast device, or an Android Wear-based device, is nearby and can be connected to.

The new feature is rolling out now, so users should see it soon. To make it work, you’ll need to turn on Bluetooth and Location Services.
