Just a couple of hours after LG unveiled the G6 exclusively with Google Assistant, Google has decided to ruin the Korean company’s party by announcing that it is expanding its AI-powered digital assistant to all Android devices running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and Android 7.0 Nougat.

Starting from this week, Google will be expanding Assistant to all Android devices with English users in the United States. This will be followed by expanding the feature to Australia, Canada, and United Kingdom. The only non-English language that Assistant will support in the coming weeks is Germany for German users.

Google will automatically roll out Assistant to all compatible Android devices through an update to Google Play Services.

While Google has expanded Assistant to Android devices other than the Pixel, it did not announce any updates to the functionality of the assistant itself. As things stand right now, Google Assistant is available on Google Home, Allo, Android, and Android Wear 2.0, but the assistant has a different set of features and integrations on all the platforms.

You will be able to trigger Google Assistant on any compatible Android device by long pressing the home button or by saying “Ok Google”.
