Qualcomm Quick Charge

Last year, Motorola surprised everyone when they highlighted the fact that the Moto X 2014 can last for up to 8 additional hours with only 15 mins of charging via its supplied Turbo Charger.

Turbo Charging, as Motorola calls it, allows the Moto X to be charged from 0-50% in only around 40 mins, and to 100% in just over 100 minutes. While Motorola calls this feature Turbo Charging, and the charger Turbo Charger, the technology was invented by Qualcomm and is more commonly referred to as Quick Charge 2.0 in the tech circle.

Samsung implements a similar feature on the Galaxy Note 4 and the Samsung Galaxy S6 called Fast Charging. Just like Motorola’s Turbo Charging, fast charging allows the Galaxy S6 and Note 4 to be charged from 0-50% in just over 30 minutes, and to 100% in just over 100 minutes.

Despite being called Turbo Charging, Fast Charging or Quick Charging, the underlying technology is the same, and they are all compatible with each other. This means that you can use Motorola’s Turbo Charger to quickly charge your Galaxy S6 or Note 4 and vice versa. The rate of charging will be exactly the same when charging the Galaxy S6 using Samsung’s own Adaptive fast charger, or the Moto X using its Turbo Charger.

I personally charge my Moto X with the stock Galaxy S6 charger to quickly charge the handset, since Motorola does not bundle the Turbo Charger with the Moto X in India.

And in case you are looking for a wall charger for your handset, you can buy a comparatively cheaper Quick Charge 2.0 compatible charger from a third-party OEM instead of going in for the pricey Motorola Turbo Charger or Samsung Fast Charger.

These chargers will also help in charging the HTC One M9 and even the LG G4, quite a bit faster. While these handsets won’t charge as fast the Moto X or the Galaxy S6, they will still charge comparatively faster when compared to chargers they ship with.

So, the next time you are at a friend’s place, feel free to use their Galaxy Note 4 or Galaxy S6’s Fast Charger to quickly charge your Moto X.
