LG has just announced a brand new version of the Optimus G called the GJ. It’s highlight feature is that it’s waterproof. With a name like “GJ”, you’d think the phone would be for the Japanese market, but it’s not. LG launched this thing in Taiwan. There will be two colors available, red or black, and the whole shebang will cost you roughly $600.

As for the rest of the specs, like I told you, it’s the same Optimus G from September 2012, except it’s waterproof. That means you’re looking at a 4.7 inch 720p display, quad core Snapdragon S4 Pro, 2 GB of RAM, and a 13 megapixel camera.

Will the GJ be sold outside of Taiwan? Good question. I don’t know. That being said, if you need a waterproof phone, then you’re spoiled for choice. There’s the Sony Xperia Z, which has a higher resolution panel; the Sony Xperia ZR, which has the same 720p screen resolution as the GJ, but in a smaller 4.55 inch form factory; and finally there’s the rumored Samsung GS4 Active, which has been leaked more times than I care to count.
