Google’s Play Store gets redesigned ahead of Google I/O, you’ll see the update in a week

Numerous screenshots of Google’s Play Store redesign have leaked during the past few weeks, and I thought it was a sign that the company was going to announce something big at Google I/O. It turns out you don’t have to wait until the big show in May to see what all the hubbub is about. Google themselves just announced the Play Store’s new look on the official Android blog.

Here’s their description of the facelift:

“The new design focuses on bigger images that jump off the page. Similarly themed content is grouped together so you can hone in on a magazine to read or an app to try. As you move down the page, new recommendations continue to appear so there is always more to see and explore. We’ve also simplified purchasing so you can breeze through checkout and get to enjoying your movie rental or other content.

When will you be able to try this out on your Android device? It’s being rolled out in stages, and Google says that by the end of next week it should be everywhere. If you’re incredibly impatient you can side-load the APK file yourself, but I suggest you just wait.
