After a long period of neglect, Google Authenticator is finally getting some love from the internet giant. Google has pushed out an update that brings major changes to the app, including a Material Design makeover and support for Android Wear.
The interface overhaul is nothing more than what one would expect; the dark Holo UI has been replaced by the more colorful look we see on Google apps these days. Thanks to Android Wear support, two-factor authentication codes will now be displayed on a user’s smartwatch, so they can just quickly type it in on whatever device they are logging in. For developers, the update adds support for NFC security keys as a preview feature.
The update also brings a new icon and the usual bug fixes and performance improvements. Head to the Play Store to update to the latest version of Google Authenticator, or to download the app if you aren’t already using it (remember that you will need to enable two-factor authentication for each of your Google accounts through a web browser.)
