Andy Rubin, one of the co-founders of Android, is leaving Google. Early in 2013, Andy had handed over the reigns of the Android division in Google to Sundar Pichai to focus on robots and other projects of Google X.

The report from The Wall Street Journal suggests that Andy will be creating an incubator for startups who create hardware. The exact reason behind Andy’s exit from Google is unclear, but according to The Information, Andy was not happy with the structure of his team.

Andy’s exit was confirmed by Google and CEO Larry Page issued the following statement:

“I want to wish Andy all the best with what’s next. With Android he created something truly remarkable-with a billion plus happy users. Thank you.”

Google research scientist James Kuffner will take over Andy’s role.

Beside founding Android, Andy Rubin had also found Danger Inc., a company that specialised in mobile hardware and software, and the manufacturer of the iconic T-Mobile Sidekick.
