Samsung will be permanently ending the production of the Galaxy Note 7 and no longer sell the phone across the world. The decision from the Korean company to stop the production and distribution of the Note 7 comes after the replacement units of the device were also found to be at the risk of explosion.

The move from the company comes just a day after it issued a statement to all Galaxy Note 7 owners asking them to immediately power down the device and return them back to the company.

Samsung has not yet formally announced the move, but The Wall Street Journal reports that the Korean company has said in a filing to Korean regulators that it would “permanently cease sales of the device.”

“Taking our customer’s safety as our highest priority, we have decided to halt sales and production of the Galaxy Note 7,” the company said.

With even ‘safe’ replacement Note 7 units catching fire, the image of the Galaxy Note 7 in the public eye was tarnished beyond repair. Even if Samsung managed to rectify the issue and bring the device back on sale, most consumers would be very apprehensive about buying it.

The whole Note 7 fiasco is expected to cost Samsung $17 billion, with the loss of goodwill and trust to its brand being unquantifiable.
