Apart from launching Samsung Pay in China, the Korean company also launched refreshed variants of two of its popular mid-range smartphones: the Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7. The 2016 variants of both phones are a major upgrade over their predecessor and feature significantly powerful internals.

Both phones now come with a metallic body, which is quickly becoming a commonplace in budget Android phones. The Galaxy J5 is the slower of the two handsets here, and it features a 5.2-inch 720p display, a quad-core chip clocked at 1.2GHz, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, a microSD card slot, and a 3,100mAh battery.

The more powerful Galaxy J7 comes with a 5.5-inch 1080p Full HD Super AMOLED display, an octa-core processor running at 1.6GHz, 3GB RAM, 16GB internal storage, microSD card slot, and a 3,300mAh battery.

Both phones feature dual-SIM connectivity, LTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, a 13MP rear shooter with an f/1.9 aperture and two-tone dual-LED flash, and a 5MP front camera with a 120-degree wide-angle lens and an LED flash.

For now, Samsung has only unveiled the Galaxy J5 (2016) and the Galaxy J7 (2016) for China with no word on their pricing and availability. The international availability of the handsets also remains a mystery for now.

While both the Galaxy J5 (2016) and Galaxy J7 (2016) pack in impressive specs, they both lack a fingerprint scanner which has become a commonplace in budget Android handset nowadays.
