A Weibo post by Chinese blogger @Digital Chat Station reveals the configuration of Qualcomm’s flagship processor. It says that Snapdragon 865 will be an octa-core processor and is expected to borrow the 1+3+4 core structure from its predecessor. In other words, the Snapdragon 865 will feature 1 X 2.84GHz Cortex-A77 + 3x 2.42GHz Cortex-A77 cores+ 4×1.8GHz Cortex-A55 cores. On the graphics front, the upcoming processor is likely to be powered by Adreno 650.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 seems to borrow a lot from its predecessor. In this regard, the performance cores offer the same clock speed. On the much brighter side, the move from Cortex-A76 to Kyro 485 is expected to boost the performance. It is worth noting that power efficiency will remain largely unchanged as the Snapdragon 865 is expected to be based on Cortex A55 cores.
It is expected to arrive with an integrated Snapdragon X55 modem. TSMC will fabricate the 7nm chipset and the same is likely to debut in a Samsung phone. Other manufacturers like Xiaomi, and Sony likely to follow suit. Smartphones powered by Snapdragon 865 will start arriving in early 2020.
