Motorola today launched the ‘special edition’ Moto G5s and Moto G5s Plus. These two premium budget handsets are based on the Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus, respectively but come with their own share of improvements and additions.

The Moto G5s features a metal unibody crafted from a single piece of high-grade aluminium. At the front, the G5s has a 5.2-inch Full HD display, up from the 5-inch panel found on the G5. Internally, the G5s is still powered by Qualcomm’s octa-core Snapdragon 430 chipset clocked at 1.4GHz. This is paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.

The camera and battery capacity on the device have also been bumped. The rear now features a 16MP shooter with Phase Detection Autofocus, while the front now features a 5MP shooter with an LED flash. As for the battery, it has now been bumped to 3000mAh. Other specs of the Moto G5s remain the same as the G5 which means you will get a microSD card slot, dual-SIM connectivity, LTE, microUSB port, and the usual array of connectivity options and sensors.

As for the Moto G5s Plus, it sports the same internals as the Moto G5 Plus i.e. it still comes with a Snapdragon 625 chipset clocked at 2GHz. It is now, however, paired with up to 4GB RAM and 64GB of storage space. The screen size has been bumped to 5.5-inch, though its resolution remains unchanged at 1080p. What sets the G5s Plus apart from the G5 Plus is its dual-camera setup at the rear. In addition to a primary 13MP sensor, there is another monochrome 13MP sensor on the handset — similar to what Moto has used on the Z2 Force. The dual-camera setup should help the Moto G5s Plus to click better photos in low-light and also allow it to take better black-and-white photos. The design of the handset has also been slightly tweaked and it now features antenna lines similar to what we see in plenty of other phones nowadays.

The Moto G5s and G5s Plus will start making their way to various countries from this month and will be making their way to the US this fall. The Moto G5s is priced at 249 EUR while the G5s Plus is priced at 299 EUR.
