Huawei’s first attempt at a Nexus smartphone worked out pretty well, with the Nexus 6P getting rave reviews and offering the most complete experience on a Nexus device. It was rumored that the Chinese OEM would make another Nexus smartphone in 2016, but a leak through Weibo suggests Google will partner with HTC for two Nexus devices this year.

According to a poster on the Chinese forum, HTC will make a 5-inch and 5.5-inch Nexus. Since producing the first Nexus phone all the way back in 2010, HTC never got another chance at the coveted program until 2015’s Nexus 9. Then, Google shook things up by teaming up with two different manufacturers for the 5.2-inch LG Nexus 5X and the 5.7-inch Huawei Nexus 6P, with the latter hogging all the limelight.

Today’s rumor comes from a leakster with a somewhat reliable track record, but it’s only the first month of 2016, which means nothing can be said for certain at this point. HTC recently said virtual reality is more important than smartphones, but getting to make a Nexus smartphone again would certainly be in the company’s favor. Whether Google brings HTC back into the fold, however, remains to be seen.

Would you like to see an HTC Nexus smartphone or two this year, or do you think Google would do better to stick with Huawei or seek out another Android OEM?
