Leading up to the official announcement of the new Pixel and Pixel XL, there was some question regarding the future of the Nexus lineup.

Google has put an end to those questions, however, as the company has confirmed, as reported by The Verge, that it has “no plans” to introduce new Nexus-branded devices in the future. This would appear to mark the end of the Nexus brand going forward, especially considering the many similarities between the Nexus and Pixel offerings.

The Nexus lineup has gone through its iterations, variants, and tribulations when it comes to pricing and carrier support over the years. The Pixel lineup doesn’t appear to be a stark difference from past efforts. Pricing is on the higher-end of things, and carrier exclusivity in the United States is limited to Verizon Wireless only.

So, as it stands, the Pixel lineup is still mainly available through Google’s online storefront, and the huge draw for most customers will be the quick software and security updates down the road. It’s unknown at this point the relationship between Google and Verizon, and that carrier’s exclusive launch device. Meaning, there’s no word if there’s any bloat ware built-in, or how quickly software updates will arrive for Verizon’s variant.
