Up until this point, we all knew that Samsung was working on something that it is going to call the Galaxy S4 Zoom. Today, we finally get to see some real-life pictures of this device, and it looks like the device is going to be a hybrid between a phone and a camera.
The folks over at SamMobile and TechTastic managed to get their hands on a press render and real life photos of the Galaxy S4, respectively. From the front, the Galaxy S4 Zoom looks like, well, any other Galaxy phone from Samsung released in the last one year. It has the same three-button combo in the front – one physical home button in the middle, and a capacitive menu and back key on each side.
According to SamMobile, the Galaxy S4 Zoom will only share the name with the Galaxy S4, and not its power. Instead of a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 or an Exynos 5 Octa, the Galaxy S4 Zoom will come with a 1.6GHz quad-core Cortex-A9 processor (presumably the Exynos 4412).
The screen has also been toned down to a 4.3-inch qHD resolution Super-AMOLED display. Other features of the Galaxy S4 Zoom will include the Wi-Fi b/g/n, NFC, microSD card slot, and Bluetooth. The device will be running on Android 4.2.2 out of the box, with Samsung’s nature inspired TouchWIZ UI on top of it.
However, the highlight of the Galaxy S4 Zoom is going to be the whopping 16MP snapper at its back, which will feature optical zoom of up to a certain extent. From the leaked pictures, it is also clear that Samsung has added a physical shutter button to this device. The leaked pictures also give a glimpse of how thick the device is going to be.
From what its worth, it looks like Samsung will be replacing the Galaxy Camera with the Galaxy S4 Zoom. The Galaxy Camera had the internals of a decent Android handset, with a 3G modem whose voice functionality was locked down. The Galaxy S4 Zoom looks to be an update of the Galaxy Camera with voice capabilities.
