At the Big Android BBQ being held in Amsterdam, Cyanogen Inc. revealed what it has in store for 2016. In line with the steps that it has taken in 2015, the company plans on working with multiple OEMs to release  budget Android devices around the $75 range in various markets.

Interestingly, Steve Kondik also mentioned during the presentation that Cyanogen Inc. will be releasing a flagship handset in 2016. Rumors and reports have indicated that Cyanogen Inc. is working with Yu, a subsidiary of Micromax, on a flagship handset for the Indian market that is due to be unveiled later this year.

Other notable points mentioned in the slide include building more apps and resources for the community, a “high performance, no compromises software, on inexpensive hardware” and eliminating bloat.

Over the last couple of years, Cyanogen Inc. has shifted its focus from flagship devices to budget Android smartphones. By teaming up with smaller OEMs, the company is easily able to get its software on more smartphones out there. While this might not be appreciated by power users, it will definitely help Cyanogen inc. in getting its software in the hands on more people. With the high-end smartphone market saturating, in my opinion, this strategy from Cyanogen Inc. will definitely help the company in the long run.
