For most people, all they need is an internet browser. They don’t really need “apps”, in the traditional sense or the word, nor do they care about having a big old hard drive since they’ve become accustomed to streaming everything. And thus, Chromebooks were born. HP makes one, so does Samsung, Acer, and even Google themselves, but according to DigiTimes, ASUS is going to join Team Chromebook at some point in the fourth quarter of this year.
Why? The company originally had plans to ship 22 to 24 million notebooks this year, but because no one really likes Windows 8, they’ve reduced that figure to 17 million to 19 million. More importantly, because Windows 8 “needs” a touch screen, it’s making it difficult for the company to sell machines that would’ve otherwise sold without a touch sensor, and thus a lower price tag.
