Android ar 2.0 will launch on smartwatches in early February, tells devs

ile Android ar 2.0 has had a rocky ride since its unveiling last May, it seems that the next version of ’s smartwatch-centric operating system has finally reached the finish line. In an email sent to developers this week, has seemingly outed a targeted timeline for Android ar 2.0’s launch as it works to put the finishing touches on its wearable OS.

In the message first published by Android lice, informs developers that it is eyeing an early February launch for Android ar 2.0 wants app makers to be ready: “Your app … uses a legacy embedded A mechanism that is not optimized for Android ar 2.0,” the note reads. “If you do not take action, users will not be able to search for find your app in the on-watch ay Store.”

A stalone app store is one of the key features of Android ar 2.0, letting users download, install, run apps on their watch without needing to have a phone nearby. Additional upgrades in Android ar 2.0 include third-party complications, better ways to communicate, support for Android y, integration with Assistant.

In December, announced that it would be releasing a pair of watches alongside the release of Android ar 2.0, so they could l in early February as well. In addition to the new hardware, numerous watches will be able to take advantage of the new upgrades, including the Huawei tch, some Moto 360 models, the G tch. Additionally, said it would be pushing out a fifth developer preview sometime in nuary.
