Up until this point, Google has generally prevented app developers from processing donations to charitable organizations, but that is changing now.

Google officially announced on Wednesday that it is opening up charitable giving directly through the Play Store, with the rollout beginning today, Wednesday, December 12. This new method of giving to a charity means that 100% of the proceeds will go to that charity of choice, which means you won’t have to buy an app and see only a portion of that purchase going towards the charitable organization of your choice.

Google has confirmed it will be partnering with groups like the World Food Program, World Wildlife Fund (US), Room to Read, UNICEF, Girls Who Code, charity: water, and several others.

The new giving feature in Google Play is available in the United States only to start, but Google will be expanding the option to a variety of different international Google Play digital storefronts in the coming days. Charitable donations will be live in Canada, Germany, Mexico, France, Spain, Italy, Taiwan, Great Britain, and Indonesia soon.
