Recently, Samsung filed a trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) that suggests the company could have another flagship coming down the pipe, this time inspired by the Galaxy S6 edge.

The trademark filing in the United States from Samsung indicates that Samsung wants to make sure the “S6 edge+” title can’t be used by any other company, and hints that the device, at least if the name is any indicator, could feature a larger display than the current Galaxy S6 edge boasts. Indeed, there have been rumors coming from the Rumor Mill suggesting as much.

That rumor suggested that Samsung’s goal with that move would be to preserve the Note lineup as it is, while at the same time launching a successor — in spirit only — to the original Note Edge without keeping the “Note” in the title.

As 9to5Google notes, Samsung also filed a trademark in South Korea for “S6 Note,” so there’s certainly some bleed-over from other model lineups within Samsung’s arsenal, as far as trademarks go. What this actually means for consumers, though, is still anyone’s guess. Just because Samsung has the trademark for the name doesn’t mean they have to use it, and there’s a chance that we could never see a real device with a “Galaxy S6 edge+” name.

Then again, Samsung as no problem with launching new devices, so perhaps the future of Samsung’s product lineup is getting interesting.
