Samsung has issued a statement in China affirming Chinese Note 7 buyers that the handset does not use a faulty battery. Samsung’s worldwide recall of the Galaxy Note 7 units does not include China since batteries for the Chinese units are sourced from a different manufacturer.

However, the Chinese media had bashed the company for not announcing an official recall of Note 7 in the country after many people complained about their phone overheating or even exploding. To make matters worse for Samsung, a Galaxy Note 7 unit exploded in Bank of China earlier this week that burnt the fingers of its owner.

In its statement, Samsung says that it is contacting and checking every complaint from Note 7 users in China about their phone exploding or getting extremely hot. It says that results of its initial testing for the Note 7 unit that exploded in Bank of China indicate that the explosion had nothing to do with the battery. The company’s results were corroborated by China Taier Laboratory (CTTL) and Exponent laboratory. The results show the site of the explosion on the phone did not originate from the battery area, which effectively rules out a faulty battery as the cause of the explosion.

The statement from Samsung also reveals that more than a 1 million customers across the world are now using safe Note 7 units, including 150,000 in China. The company urges all Chinese customers facing any issues related to overheating to contact them through their helpline. It also apologised to customers for bringing them distress and anxiety.
