Galaxy S5 mini leak

While Samsung launched their flagship device for 2014, the Galaxy S5, earlier this year, we’ve already seen plenty of new variants with the Galaxy S5 branding land on store shelves after the fact. Now, an inside, unnamed source has confirmed that Samsung has another one coming down the pipe, this time with the familiar “mini” branding tagging along.

According to an unnamed inside source speaking with SamMobile, Samsung is indeed gearing up to launch their mini-branded version of the Galaxy S5 soon. How soon? Well, the source suggests that Samsung has the device ready for a mid-July launch, which puts it –potentially– a couple of weeks away. What’s more, the source says that Samsung is aiming for a global roll-out right out of the gate, so it looks like if you’ve been waiting for a mini version of the Galaxy S5, the wait could be coming to a close soon.

As one can imagine, Samsung is working to include plenty of features that you can find on the regular-sized Galaxy S5 with the mini version. Namely, Samsung’s fingerprint sensor in the Home button is said to get the inclusion in the mini version, as well as the heart rate monitor on the back. The Galaxy S5 mini will also be IP67 certified, so it should be water and dust resistant out of the box.

While not official quite yet, the Galaxy S5 mini is said to pack a 4.5-inch display, with a 720p resolution. Under the hood, it’s said you’ll find a 1.4GHz Samsung Exynos 3 quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, and somewhere in the range of 16GB of built-in storage. There’s said to be an 8-megapixel camera on the back, with a 2.1MP camera on the front. It’s said to be running Android 4.4.2 KitKat right out of the box, feature NFC capabilities, and be running the latest version of Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz interface.

The Galaxy S5 mini doesn’t sound like a bad device at all, especially for someone who’s looking to get on the Galaxy S5 train, but doesn’t necessarily want the big screen to go along with it. Hopefully we won’t have to wait much longer to see some official images, and hear some official announcements, for the handset.

Have you been waiting for a mini version of the Galaxy S5?
