Samsung’s Electronics CEO, Jong-kyun Shin, expects the company’s latest flagship handsets — the Galaxy S6 and S6 edge — to sell in record numbers.

At an event in Seoul, the head said that Samsung is expecting the Galaxy S6 to sell in far better numbers than the Galaxy S5 or any of its predecessors. However, he did not specify any exact shipment numbers.

Shin revealed that the company went “back to the basics” for the latest Galaxies, and the S6 edge is the outcome of that.

“Making everyday functions more handy and useful for consumers and creating what is needed most at this moment rather than trying to get ahead of rivals, is what we believe was a sincere innovation,” he said at the media event.

Speaking at the the media event, Shin also said that the Galaxy S6 edge is going to be in short supply “for a while.” He said that there is a huge demand for the Galaxy S6 edge, but the curved screen on the handset is tough to manufacture, which will led to some supply issues initially.

“We’re working hard to resolve the difficulty in supply,” Mr. Shin said, noting the supply issue could persist “for a while.”

The Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge are scheduled to go on sale in 20 countries, including the United States, from April 10 (i.e. tomorrow), though many users who pre-ordered the handset have already received it.
