Samsung has already confirmed that it will be permanently disabling Galaxy Note 7 units in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

And now the manufacturer has announced that United States devices are on the chopping block as well. The company confirmed that, beginning December 19, it will release a software update for the Galaxy Note 7 that will disable it permanently, or, as they put it, “eliminate their ability to work as mobile devices.”

The update will be distributed to all devices in the U.S. within 30 days.

Samsung and the carriers in the United States will alert customers that the recall is still happening, and that their device will soon be disabled. The manufacturer will note to return the device and get something to replace it. It also said that over 93 percent of all recalled units in the U.S. had been returned.
