Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ is 30 Percent More Efficient, Up to 15 Percent Faster

Late last year, Qualcomm unveiled Quick Charge 4 technology alongside its Snapdragon 835 chipset. A few months later, the company has now unveiled Quick Charge 4+ which promises to be up to 30 percent more efficient, 15 percent faster, and keep your device 3 degrees cooler than before. 

Quick Charge 4 already promised to charge a device to 50 percent within 15 minutes, so any further improvements in charging times with Quick Charge 4+ is an added bonus.

Qualcomm says that Quick Charge 4+ has three major enhancements over Quick Charge. First, it features Dual Charge which includes a second power management IC chip in the device. This allows the phone to divide the charge current into two, thereby lowering thermal dissipation and reducing charging time.

Another benefit of Dual Charge is better thermal balancing as the current is automatically pushed through the coolest path first which reduces the overall heat generated by the phone. Finally, Quick Charge 4+ comes with advanced safety measures which monitors the temperature of the case and the connector to prevent overheating or short-circuit to the Type-C connector.

Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ is compatible with the company’s Snapdragon 835 chipset, though it cannot be enabled on already existing devices in the market since it requires a hardware upgrade. Chinese OEM nubia has already announced the world’s first Quick Charge 4+ compatible handset, the nubia z17. The handset features a Snapdragon 835 chipset, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, and comes with a 3200mAh battery.

Interestingly, while Qualcomm is boasting about the improvements it has introduced with Quick Charge 4+, there is not a single device available in the market that even supports Quick Charge 4.0. Most of the flagship Android smartphones are still supporting Quick Charge 3.0 including the likes of LG G6 and HTC U11.
