Qualcomm today kick-started its tech summit in Hawaii by announcing the Snapdragon 845, its next-generation flagship chip. The company did not provide many details about the chip except for stating that it would be built by Samsung on its 2nd gen. 10nm fabrication.

Additionally, the Snapdragon 845 will launch with Qualcomm’s X20 LTE modem that will support 1.2Gbps download speeds on supported networks. Other usual improvements expected with the chip include faster processing, improved image processing and better power efficiency. Qualcomm will also likely focus on AI processing with the Snapdragon 845 which has become a key point of competition among various SoC vendors recently.

Qualcomm is expected to release more details about its Snapdragon 845 chip later this week.

During the announcement, Xiaomi’s CEO Lei Jun also took the stage to announce that the company’s next flagship smartphone, the Mi 7, will make use of the Snapdragon 845 chip. Qualcomm and Xiaomi have a very close relationship, with the latter being the first to use many of Qualcomm’s chips in its devices.

Apart from Xiaomi’s Mi 7, other flagship phones from smartphone makers like Samsung, LG and OnePlus are also expected to make use of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chip in their flagship phones of 2018.
