The unlocked, non-branded variants of the Galaxy S6 come with an unlockable bootloader that makes gaining root access on the handset easy.

However, the problem is that rooting the Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 edge will trip the KNOX counter on the device thereby voiding its warranty. The only way to gain root access on the handset is via an exploit, but they are rare to come by nowadays.

Thankfully for Galaxy S6 owners, developer jparasita has found an exploit — dubbed PingPongRoot — that makes it possible to gain root access on the handset without tripping KNOX. The exploit already works with a bunch of different Galaxy S6 firmware, and the developer is working on adding support for variants of the handset.

The steps to root the Galaxy S6 using PingPongRoot are pretty simple, and only requires users to install the APK, tap on the “Get root” button and run the “Kinguser” app in the end.

The exploit should also work on the Galaxy S6 edge, HTC One M9 and other similar devices, though the current version is incompatible with it. The developer, however, says that he will look into supporting these handsets “soon.”
