A New Galaxy Note 7 Allegedly Caught Fire and Injured Owner

In some regions, Samsung has already begun replacing old Galaxy Note 7 units, those equipped with faulty batteries, with new units, which reportedly feature safer batteries.

However, reports continue to surface that suggest Samsung’s battery woes are not quite finished. A recent report from Bloomberg outlines an event that allegedly includes a brand new Galaxy Note 7 unit purchased just this last week from JD.com, and was delivered to Hui Renjie. The 25-year old alleges that his Galaxy Note 7 unit exploded within 24 hours of obtaining the device.

The explosion caused minor injuries to two of the customer’s fingers, and also burned his MacBook. Renjie says that Samsung sent an employee to his home to retrieve the Galaxy Note 7 unit, but he declined to have it taken back, as he “does not trust Samsung” to reveal the reason why the explosion happened. Instead, Renjie wants to publicize the event.

Bloomberg reached out to Samsung regarding the event, and this was their response:

“We are currently contacting the customer and will conduct a thorough examination of the device in question once we receive it,” the Korean company said in an e-mailed statement.”

Samsung recalled the Galaxy Note 7 after several separate reports from across the globe popped up, insisting that the Galaxy Note 7 was exploding and, in some cases, causing major damage. Injuries were not as readily reported, thankfully, but it did force Samsung to enact the recall. In South Korea, however, some new Galaxy Note 7 owners have reported their devices suffer from loss of power, or overheating, while charging.

This latest report from China will only ignite questions regarding the battery issue in the Galaxy Note 7, and whether or not it has truly been fixed.
