Moto G begins receiving Android 4.4.3 update

The Moto G continues to be among the best budget smartphones in the market today, and Motorola is making sure it stays that way for some time to come. The Moto G is beginning to receive the Android 4.4.3 update, less than a week after the latest version of the OS started rolling out to Google’s Nexus devices.

The feature list in Android 4.4.3 is quite short – apart from a slightly redesigned dialer app, most of the changes revolve around bug fixes and performance improvements. Thankfully, Motorola has added a few points of its own to the changelog. This includes the ability to pause and resume video recording (admittedly a feature that should have been there when the phone was launched), and a new app called Motorola Alert. (Modafinil) This app – which you will need to download from the Play Store after the update – gives users a simple way to keep track of their friends and family, by periodically sending out notifications about the device’s location when the Alert mode is activated.

The update is reportedly rolling out to both the single and dual SIM variants as an approx. 170MB download, and should start making its way to the Moto E in the coming days. As usual, don’t expect to see a notification for the update right away since it will roll out gradually, though you can always try doing a manual check in the Settings » About phone » Software updates menu.
