Kicking off the series of announcements at IFA is Lenovo with its new super-slim Android tablet — the Tab S8 powered by a quad-core processor from Intel.

For its price of a mere $199, the S8 packs in quite a punch including a waistline (0.31-inches) that is slimmer than the iPad Mini with Retina Display and Samsung’s Galaxy Tab S 8.4. It also weighs in a mere 0.65 pounds.

This 8-inch tablet from Lenovo is also the first to make use of Intel’s quad-core 64-bit Atom chip, so it will be interesting to see how it performs compared to the likes of other tablets that are powered by chips from Qualcomm and Nvidia.

The full specs of the Tab S8 are as follows:

  • 8-inch 1920 x 1200 resolution screen
  • Quad-Core Intel Atom Z3745 CPU with Intel Burst Performance technology
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB internal storage
  • Optional LTE connectivity
  • Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0
  • Dolby enhanced front-facing stereo speakers
  • 8MP rear camera with F/2.2 aperture
  • 1.6MP front-facing camera
  • Android 4.4 KitKat
  • Up to 7 hours of battery life

Lenovo states that the Tab S8 runs on a near stock build of Android 4.4 KitKat, which is always welcome. The device will be available immediately across all the major markets via key retailers for a price of $199 before taxes and subsidies.
