After staying out of the limelight for the greater part of the year, Lenovo today unveiled its latest budget handset: the Lenovo K8 Note. Unlike previous Lenovo handsets which usually make their debut in India after a few months of their Chinese debut, Lenovo has launched the K8 Note in India first.

With the K8 Note, Lenovo is looking to make amends. The handset is vastly different from the company’s previous handsets and offers great value for money. Q) What are the full specifications of the Lenovo K8 Note?

A) The full specs of the Lenovo K8 Note are as follows:

Q) Is the battery of the handset removable?

A) No, since the Lenovo K8 Note features a metal and polycarbonate body, its battery and back cover are not removable.

Q) What kind of SIM card slot does the phone have? Can one use two SIM cards and a microSD card at the same time?

A) The Lenovo K8 Note features three slots. Two of them are nanoSIM cards slots while the third one is for a microSD card.

Q) Is the Lenovo K8 Note water-resistant?

A) The Lenovo K8 Note features a splash repellent coating, but it is not water-resistant.

Q) What is the configuration of the K8 Note’s 10-core Helio X23 MediaTek chipset?

A) The 10-core Helio X23 chipset of the K8 Note features four cores clocked at 1.4GHz, another four at 1.85GHz, and the last two cores at 2.3GHz.

Q) Does the Lenovo K8 Note suffer from overheating issues?

A) Compared to other Android handsets powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 or Snapdragon 625 chipset, the 10-core Helio X23 chipset on the Lenovo K8 Note does tend to get a bit more warm. This means that the handset can get a bit more warm than usual while playing games or using Google Maps but this should not be a cause for concern.

Q) Is the display on the Lenovo K8 Note protected by Gorilla Glass?

A) The 5.5-inch display of the Lenovo K8 Note is protected by Corning’s 2.5D curved Gorilla Glass. Do remember that Gorilla Glass is also ultimately glass and is prone to scratches and cracking.

Q) Where is the fingerprint scanner on the Lenovo K8 Note located? Is it touch based?

A) The fingerprint scanner on the K8 Note is located at the rear, and yes, it is touch based.

A) No. Since the K8 Note runs on a near-stock build of Android Nougat, it lacks native app locking functionality. However, you can download one of the many third-party apps available on the Play Store to achieve the functionality.

Q) Can you record slow-motion videos on the Lenovo K8 Note?

A) Yes, you can. The handset can also record videos in Full HD resolution at 30fps, though despite coming with a 10-core chipset, it cannot record 4K videos.

Q) Which version of Android does the handset run on?

A) Android 7.1.1 Nougat.

Q) What’s so special about the software of the Lenovo K8 Note?

A) The K8 Note is the first Lenovo handset to run on a near stock build of Android 7.1.1 Nougat. Similar to Moto devices, Lenovo has decided to offer its future devices with a stock build of Android with just some enhancements added for a superior user experience. This will also help Lenovo in rolling out quicker software updates to the handset.

Q) How does the dual-camera setup on the Lenovo K8 Note work? Does it offer 2x zoom like on the iPhone 7 Plus?

A) The secondary 5MP sensor on the Lenovo K8 Note is only used to capture depth information. This allows the handset to offer a bokeh/Portrait mode. Users can also adjust the amount of background blur according to their liking.

Q) Does the Lenovo K8 Note support LTE and VoLTe networks? Will a Reliance Jio SIM work on the phone?

A) Yes, it does support LTE and VoLTE out of the box. Unlike many other phones, the handset will also work with a Reliance Jio SIM out of the box. The K8 Note also supports Band 5, which will be used by many Indian operators in the future.

Q) Is Quick charging supported on the Lenovo K8 Note?

A) Yes. The Lenovo K8 Note supports 15W fast charging. This means that its charging speeds are equivalent to Quick Charge 2.0 standard.

Q) How much free storage space does the Lenovo K8 Note has out of the box?

A) Almost 50GB out of the box on the 64GB variant. The 32GB variant has around 22GB of free space.

Q) Can you uninstall or disable pre-installed apps on the handset?

A) Yes, you can uninstall or disable some pre-installed apps on the K8 Note to free up space on the internal storage of the handset.

A) No, the capacitive keys on the Lenovo K8 Note are not backlit.

A) The Lenovo K8 Note offers a better camera performance and a stock Android experience over the Redmi Note 4. The latter, on the other hand, wins in terms of  battery life and performance.

Q) What contents do you get inside the retail box of the Lenovo K8 Note?

A) You get the phone, a 15W charger, a USB cable, SIM ejector tool, instruction manuals, some regulatory papers, and a transparent case. Lenovo does not ship the phone with any earphones.

A) Yes, the Lenovo K8 Note supports USB On-The-Go. This allows you to directly connect pen drives, external hard disks and more using an adapter to the device.

Q) When does the Lenovo K8 Note go on sale and where?

A) The Lenovo K8 Note is available exclusively on Amazon India. The 3GB + 32GB variant of the phone is available for Rs 12,999, while the 4GB + 64GB variant is priced at Rs 13,999. The handset goes on sale in India from August 18. It will be available in Venom Black and Fine Gold colors.
