Ever since it acquired Motorola, Lenovo has been flip-flopping on the UI its devices would be running on. The company first decided to bring its Vibe UI to Moto devices, though it ended up simplifying its Vibe UI. Then, in 2016, it went ahead and renamed Vibe UI to Pure UI and decided to let Moto devices run a near-stock build of Android.

Now, Lenovo has announced that going forward its own devices will be running a stock build of Android with no bloatware pre-installed. The company says that it has taken this move due to consumers preferring devices running a stock build of Android. Another positive effect of this change will be that Lenovo devices will now get quicker and faster Android OS updates.

While Lenovo will not be pre-installing bloatware on its devices, it will still offer Dolby Atmos and TheaterMax software enhancements on its devices.

In addition to the above, Lenovo also confirmed that its forthcoming handset, the K8 Note, will launch in India on August 8 running a stock build of Android 7.1.1.

By making sure that its devices run a stock build of Android, Lenovo will also be able to ensure that they don’t slow down over time or bog their performance down with bloatware. This will help the company differentiate its handsets from the likes of Xiaomi, Oppo and Vivo which sell their handsets running a heavily skinned version of Android.
