Imagine a phone that looks exactly like the Galaxy S4, but all the components have been severely downgraded. That’s exactly what the Galaxy Grand Neo is, and thanks to the guys over at GSM Arena, we have a complete spec sheet. Gone is the 5.0 inch 1080p screen, it’s been replaced by a 5.0 inch 800 x 480 pixel panel. Also, forget about the Snapdragon 600, it’s been replaced by a quad core 1.2 GHz chip from Broadcom (the BCM23550). The RAM has also been halved. And the camera drops from 13 megapixels to 5 megapixels.

All of that will allegedly cost you 300 Euros, which is a total rip off considering that a 4G LTE Galaxy S3 can be had for the same price. And who in their right mind wouldn’t want a Galaxy S3 compared to this thing? Sure, the Grand Neo might look more modern, and that might entice some people who couldn’t care less about hardware specifications, but that doesn’t mean Samsung should be selling such low end hardware for such obscene prices.

In fact, the 800 x 480 screen, the 5 megapixel camera, the quad core 1.2 GHz chip, all that can be found in a phone called the Galaxy Core, which sells for half the price. Yes, the screen in the Core measures only 4.3 inches on the diagonal, but everything else stays the same.

Truth be told, if you want to save money, yet want a competent smartphone, your best bet is to buy Motorola’s Moto G. It’s not the sexiest thing in the world, but it’s fast, it’s already running Android 4.4.2 KitKat, and it doesn’t look like the Galaxy everyone else is carrying around town.
