The Huawei P20 Pro has caught the fancy of many people who are eagerly waiting to get their hands on it. And then there’s the iFixit team which got their hands on the P20 Pro and has promptly torn its down giving us an inside look at its triple camera set up at the rear.

The teardown reveals just how packed the P20 Pro is from inside. While getting inside the handset is relatively easy if you have the right set of tools, there’s not a lot you will be able to do afterward.

The teardown gives a clear look at the triple camera set up. While the three use a single housing, they are connected to the motherboard using only two connectors. The 40MP and 8MP sensors use the same port, while the telephoto camera has another port for itself. Interestingly, the teardown suggests that all three camera modules feature OIS, though Huawei mentions that only the 8MP telephoto sensor has OIS while the other two sensors rely on EIS.

The iFixit team notes that many of the components used inside the P20 Pro are modular in nature thereby making them easy to replace. However, with the phone featuring glass panels at the front and rear, prying it open requires one to be cautious. As for screen replacement, that’s particularly difficult since it requires disassembling the phone to a certain degree and going through two layers of glue. Overall, the Huawei P20 Pro got a repairability score of 4 out of 10 which is pretty good for a flagship smartphone launched in 2018.

What do you think about the P20 Pro? Are you planning on buying it?
