Nearly a month after their international launch, Huawei today launched the P20 Pro and P20 Lite in India. The handsets will go on sale in the country from early next month.

The P20 Pro is Huawei’s first flagship to launch in the country in a couple of years. The last flagship that Huawei launched in India was the P9 but that failed to make a mark.

The P20 Pro comes with a 19:9 aspect ratio 6.1-inch FHD+ notched OLED display. The notch can be masked using an option in the software if you are not a fond of it. The phone is made of glass and features an IP67 certification making it dust and water-resistant, but lacks wireless charging support. Other specs include Huawei’s Kirin 970 octa-core chipset with a dedicated AI chip, 6GB RAM, 128GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi ac, dual-SIM connectivity with VoLTE, USB-C, no headphone jack, Face unlock, and Bluetooth 5.0. There’s a fingerprint scanner located at the bottom chin on the front of the device.

The device is powered by a 4000mAh battery and features support for Huawei’s SuperCharge tech.

The highlight of the P20 Pro is its triple-camera setup at the rear. The primary camera features a staggering 40MP resolution and its paired with a secondary 8MP telephoto lens. This allows the P20 Pro to offer 5x hybrid zoom or 3x optical zoom. The third sensor is a monochrome one meant for capturing more details.

While Huawei will allow you to take shots at full 40MP, it will by default output photos at 10MP resolution. For this, the phone’s camera will take data from four adjacent pixels to output cleaner and less noisy 10MP photos. Huawei is calling this feature Light Fusion and its similar to pixel binning tech used by various other OEMs in the past. Interestingly, only the telephoto lens has OIS while the other two lens makes use of Huawei’s AI-powered stabilization (AIS as Huawei calls it). There are plenty of camera features on the P20 Pro including a 5-second long exposure mode. The 4D Predictive Focus relies on laser, depth, contrast, and face detection to quickly achieve focus irrespective of the situation. The camera ranks ahead of the likes of the Galaxy S9, Pixel 2 and the iPhone X in DxOMark’s testing.

At the front, there is a 24MP selfie shooter with 3D Portrait Lighting and Portrait mode.

On the software front, the P20 Pro runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with Emotion UI 8.1 on top of it. It comes with plenty of customization options and features for one to play around with.

Huawei is launching the black and blue variant of the P20 Pro in India. It will be sold exclusively through Amazon India from May 3 for Rs 64,999.

As for the P20 Lite, it features a 16MP + 2MP depth sensor at its rear and a 24MP f/2.0 shooter at front. The handset features a 5.84-inch FHD+ display, Kirin 659 chipset, USB-C connectivity, and a 3000mAh battery. It is priced at Rs 19,999 and goes on sale from May 3.
