Samsung One UI for Galaxy S9

The One UI/Android 9.0 Pie beta program for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ is set to go live any time now Initially, the beta program is only available in the United States, though Samsung is expected to expand it to other regions including India, France, the U.K., and Germany from later this month. Here’s how you can join the beta program to get the Android 9.0 Pie/One UI update on your Galaxy S9 right away.

Samsung’s One UI beta program has limited seats — approximately 10,000 — so make sure to sign up for the beta program as soon as it goes live in your region. Otherwise, you might have to wait until Samsung gets around to releasing the final update.

Samsung is debuting a brand new UI with the Android 9.0 Pie update for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy Note 9. Dubbed One UI, the refreshed UI has been designed with a focus on one-hand use on large screen devices and minimizing clutter. Almost every aspect of the UI has been updated and improved upon. Samsung has also added a system-wide dark theme which is going to please a lot of users.

Right now, the beta program is only for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. Samsung will probably expand it to the Galaxy Note 9 and other regions of the world over the coming months.

How To Enroll in Samsung’s Android 9.0 Pie/One UI Beta Program for Galaxy S9

Step 1: Download the Samsung Members app from Galaxy Apps or Google Play. If you are in the US, you need to download the Samsung+ app.

Step 2: When you open the app, you will automatically see a notice about the One UI beta program. Tap on it and proceed to fill and submit the application form.

Step 3: You will need to have a Samsung account to take part in the beta program. If you and your device meet the criteria listed, your device will be enrolled in the beta program. However, if the slots run out in the beta program, your registration would be denied.

Step 4: Once enrolled, wait for a few minutes and then check for a software update on your Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+ from Settings -> Software Update -> Download updates manually. The Android 9.0 Pie/One UI beta update should show up for your device. If not, try again after a few minutes. You can also try restarting your device if the update does not show up even after multiple tries.

Installing the beta firmware will not wipe any data stored on your device so you can install the update without any worries.

Being a beta, the One UI/Android 9.0 Pie beta firmware for the Galaxy S9 and S9+ might be a bit buggy. Samsung will roll out updates to address that. However, if you find the build too unstable, you can use the Samsung Members app to unregister from the program. Then, you will have to use Samsung’s Smart Switch app on your PC to get your S9 back to the last stable firmware available. You will lose all data stored on your device during this process so make sure to create backups.
