Owners of the international Galaxy S4 Active (GT-I9295) will start receiving the Android 4.4.2 update from today. Carrier variants of the smartphone started getting the update not too long ago, but the unlocked models across the globe were yet to taste KitKat.

The update will be rolled out in stages, so don’t be surprised if you don’t see a notification on your device right away. It changes the software version to I9295XXUCNE5 and brings a couple of nifty modifications on board, mostly related to stock Android.

Samsung has tweaked its UI for the latest version of Android, but don’t expect any major changes on board. There will be improved controls for features like music, camera etc while performance has been boosted as well. Samsung also claims that battery life will be improved with this new version, which is good news.

The update can be pulled manually either through Kies or by heading over to Settings – General – About Phone – Software Updates on the device.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 Active wasn’t sold on a global scale initially, with the availability limited to the U.S. via local carrier AT&T. But Samsung gradually started rolling out the device in other countries as well.
