Word of a Galaxy A9 Pro being under the works has been making the rounds in the rumor mill, but not much has been available in terms of where the device stands compared to the Galaxy A9. That is changing today thanks to the appearance of the Galaxy A9 Pro on the GFXBench benchmark website.

The Galaxy A9, which launched late last year, has top-notch specs for a mid-range smartphone, and it looks like the A9 Pro will bring upgrades to some key aspects. According to the benchmark, it runs Android 6.0.1 out of the box, has 4GB of RAM, and the 13 MP rear camera of the A9 has been upgraded to a 16 MP sensor. Oddly, the display is smaller at 5.5 inches – this could either be an actual change in the hardware or simply a result of the benchmarked device being a non-final unit.

Other specs of the A9 Pro include an octa-core processor (the Snapdragon 652 with the Adreno 510 GPU), 32GB of expandable storage, a microSD slot, and an 8-megapixel rear camera, which are the same as those of the Galaxy A9. GFXBench doesn’t list the battery capacity on devices, but the giant 4,000 mAh battery on the A9 should make its way to the Galaxy A9 Pro as it is.

If these specs are accurate, the Galaxy A9 Pro would be a notable upgrade over the Galaxy A9 and could be among the first Samsung devices other than the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge to launch with Android 6.0 out of the box. There is no information on when the Galaxy A9 Pro will be officially unveiled, though more details should make their way online in the coming weeks.
