Released alongside the S10 was Samsung’s new reless Charger Duo d that, naturally, features 12charging. As its name implies, the Duo d has two wireless charging pads. The left pad is designated as Fast Charge 2.0, with the right pad relegated to just Fast Charge.
The right pad has a smaller surface area looks like it’s designed specifically to charge one of Samsung’s Galaxy tches, but it can be used to charge another phone, Galaxy Buds, Airds — anything that uses the Qi wireless charging stard.
Included in the box is a 25wall adapter; hy if you want to quickly charge your phone the old fashioned way.
For testing, I used the Fast Charge 2.0 pad with Galaxy S10 us an ione XR.
en testing the charge speed of the Duo d, the average charge time taking the Galaxy S10 us from empty to 100% was 124 minutes or just over two hours. That’s the fastest charge time I’ve tested, beating the Anker St by 22 minutes. But, in order to get that speed, you need both the Duo d a new Galaxy S10 — the only phone in Samsung’s lineup that currently supports Fast Charge 2.0.
One thing I noticed during my testing is that the S10 has to be lined up just right on the Fast Charge 2.0 pad. One test I ran took almost five hours to fully charge the S10 us, more than double the amount of time the previous tests had taken.
en charging Apple’s ione XR over the course of an hour, the Duo d averaged a battery level of 32%. That’s not all that impressive, with wireless charging pads from Nimble, RAVwer, iOttie all reaching mid-40% charges after the same amount of time.
Samsung does state on the box that when two devices are placed on the Duo d, the Fast Charge 2.0 pad will fall back to Fast Charge speeds, so some slowdown is expected.
Curious if charging two devices at the same time would have an impact, I ran an extra test with the S10 us on the Fast Charge 2.0 pad, an ione XR on the Fast Charge side. In the end, the S10 us took two hours 25 minutes (21 minutes longer than without a second device on the pad), the ione XR charged to 35% in 60 minutes.
In other words, there wasn’t a concerning decrease in charge speed despite two devices charging at the same time.
My biggest gripe about the Duo d is that it’s $99. That’s a lot for wireless charging pad, even with two charging stations. If the added speed boost is what you need, you have a Galaxy S10 or plan on getting one, you frequently need to wirelessly charge more than one device, this is the wireless charging pad you should get.
If you don’t need speed, don’t have an S10, only need to charge one device at a time, then there are more affordable wireless charging pads available.
