Android Wear

Android Wear is set to take the smartwatch segment by storm in the coming months with the likes of the LG G Watch and the Moto 360 gearing up for launch. And now, two separate reports hint at upcoming Android Wear devices from Samsung and HTC respectively, with both devices known as ‘Wear’.

Samsung has reportedly filed a trademark for ‘Samsung Wear’ while HTC’s smartwatch could be known as the HTC Wear. It seems like both manufacturers will look to keep the name simple to avoid any complications, although it’s yet to be confirmed.

Given HTC’s misfortune in the recent years, a device like this could just be the remedy to get itself out of trouble. This has the potential to work given the company’s specialization in design.

As it stands, the Moto 360 is easily the best looking smartwatch we’ve seen, so HTC will have its work cut out. The report also states that HTC could launch plastic and metal variants of the smartwatch, similar to the Samsung Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo.

As far as Samsung Wear is concerned, the company shouldn’t have any trouble marketing the device given its experience with the trio of Gear smartwatches currently available in the market. But unlike the Gear brand, Android Wear will be compatible with a wide range of devices, so Samsung will have to target a larger demographic. We will keep a close eye on this to see how the rumors materialize.

It will be particularly interesting to see how HTC adapts to the small form factor as this will be its first attempt at a wearable device.
