Back in 2016, Amazon stopped selling Google’s Chromecast from its e-commerce platform. Amazon’s CEO Jeff Bezos had then claimed that it was important for streaming media players being sold on Amazon to interact with Prime Video otherwise consumers would get confused. Three years later, Amazon has once again started selling Chromecast but its Prime Video app is still missing.

This was also the reason behind Amazon not carrying the Apple TV on its platform. In retaliation, Google went ahead and removed its YouTube app for the Fire TV streaming stick.

Amazon had initially announced that it would start selling Chromecast again in 2017 itself. But the company has taken its own sweet time since then to actually put the streaming service on sale despite their listing going live back then itself. Amazon now sells the third-generation Chromecast and Chromecast Ultra for $35 and $69, respectively.

While there’s still no Prime Video app or casting support in Prime Video’s Android app, Chromecast does have support from apps like Netflix, YouTube, HBO Now, and other popular streaming services. Maybe now that Amazon has started selling the Chromecast again, it would also bring cast functionality to its Prime Video app. And maybe that will lead Google to bring back the YouTube app on Fire TV streaming sticks. At least one can hope that this is how things pan out.
