An update To Google’s Messenger SMS app brings a handy quick reply feature that lets you type out a response without opening the full app.
The only downside is you’re not able to see the conversation, so you’ll have to jump back into the app if you need to reference something.
There’s also a new, scrollable widget for checking out your conversations and jumping into the quick-reply mode. It also comes with some of the emoji that have long been a part of the Hangouts app.
Why this matters: While Google figures out what it’s doing with Hangouts, it’s been adding a lot of nice updates to its stock texting app that it launched alongside the Nexus 6. We expect to hear more about Google’s plans for Hangouts and messaging at its I/O conference in May.
