WhatsApp — the popular messaging service used by millions and owned by Facebook — was updated today with Material Design.

Google had introduced Material Design last year when it had announced Android 5.0 Lollipop. The company plans on using the new design guidelines across all its apps and services to deliver a consistent user experience.

The Material Design update of WhatsApp does not completely overhaul its UI, though certain sections of the app have received a major revamp. There are some new animations in the app, and the UI of the share menu has received a nice overhaul. Another notable change in the update is the new Profile screen with a slick animations that looks gorgeous.

Below are some screenshots of the new Material Design WhatsApp:

The Material Design update of WhatsApp is not available on the Google Play Store and needs to be downloaded directly from WhatsApp’s website (v2.12.38).
