What's New in Android 8.1 Developer Preview 2

Google released the second and final Developer Preview of Android 8.1 to developers and advanced users last night. This is the final DP release of Android 8.1 before Google releases the final OTA to consumers for all compatible Pixel devices in December.

The first DP of Android 8.1 primarily brought about some improvements and enhancements to the Google Pixel 2 whilst also bringing some of Pixel 2’s exclusive features to older Pixel devices and AOSP.

While the first DP of Android 8.1 was also supposed to activate the Pixel Visual Core on the Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL, that did not happen. Instead, Google promised to do so with the second DP of Android 8.1 which it has.

So, what other changes has Google introduced in Android 8.1 DP 2? Read below and find out.

  • The Pixel 2 now records audio from the top mic instead of the one on the bottom
